Project Start 'MtecPla'

In the research project ‘MtecPla’, planblue, together with the University of Stuttgart, the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and Kurt Synowzik Werkzeug u. Maschinenbau (KSW), is advancing its technology further and taking marine litter monitoring to the next level. The aim is to develop a monitoring technology to automatically detect and visualize plastic waste on the seafloor. The partners will develop a detection software, a new hardware housing and mission planning techniques to best analyze marine litter. The technology will be tested and reiterated in laboratory, as well as lake tests with different types and sizes of plastic debris.

The project is conducted within the PlaMoWa Network – Plastic Monitoring in European Waters and has a runtime from August 2020 to October 2022. MtecPla is funded by the ZIM Program of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy.
