Our PlanBlue
technology

The PlanBlue technology is an intelligent underwater camera, that can quickly scan large areas of seafloor or any other type of underwater surfaces. The obtained data is standardized and can be automatically analysed . Our technology combines hyperspectral imaging with machine-learning algorithms. The PlanBlue technology significantly reduces the time spent both below and above water (i.e., monitoring underwater and data analysis/interpretation on land). Any experienced diver can use the PlanBlue camera, it is not limited to experts-only. The rich data obtained by the PlanBlue technology is objective (i.e., independent of the person analyzing the seafloor data) and can easily be compared to future studies. Soon the technology will also be diver-independent.

The obtained data from our technology is very rich in quantity and quality (i.e. big data)). Our smart software can tailor the data for your purposes and extract only the information you want (i.e. smart data). The data can be re-used and compared any time in the future as the raw data never changes. You can feed your expert knowledge into the software and automate your workflow gathering your results in real-time. The data can be also presented in the form of interactive color-coded maps. Depending on your question(s), features on the maps can be highlighted (e.g., where are invasive algae, where can I best build underwater, what is the impact of a nearby construction site?).

  • Fast way to monitor seafloors.

    A 40m2 seafloor area can be monitored in 60 seconds using a PlanBlue camera. This is several orders of magnitude faster than many traditional monitoring technologies, which can take up to 60 minutes to survey the same seafloor area.

  • Automated analysis & objective assessment

    Our technology prevents labor-intensive data entry and interpretation by standardizing and automating data collection and processing. Our technology provides a purely objective assessment of the seafloor enabling an optimal fusion and comparability of datasets. Therefore, our technology does not rely on the capabilities of the expert performing and analyzing the survey.

  • Full coverage of the seafloor

    Our technology surveys the entire seafloor (i.e., each pixel recorded is information). Traditional technologies often study only sections of pictures or video material obtained, which is then extrapolated as if the entire seafloor is studied.

    Our software is capable of tailoring big data to your purposes. It also visualizes results in interactive seafloor maps highlighting your focus of interest.
